Domain Pricing & Order Processing at SlashRoot.Com

This document explains why the domain name prices are so low at SlashRoot.Com, provides information on how the minimum offer prices, target prices are set for various domains, and briefly describes -rather informally -how a domain order is processed at SlashRoot.Com.

Why Are the SlashRoot Domain Prices So Low?
Many of our customers wonder how we can sell these quality domain names at such low prices, and still remain in business. Well, the answer is quite simple!

First of all, we run a tight ship. We choose our domains carefully, and ensure that every domain sale results in a positive cash flow -except for a few free domain names that we give away once in a while. We also keep our advertising costs to the bare minimum. We try to grow the business by taking very good care of our customers, and often we are rewarded in the form of repeat business from our existing, satisfied customers.

We have streamlined our business processes, and we don't waste money on unnecessary things like toll-free telephone numbers, etc. More importantly, we're straight shooters. There are no tricks in what we do here at SlashRoot.Com. We have been in business long enough to know that good old, reliable, fair and equitable business practices are key to the continued success of our business. We are a small but profitable business that expects to remain in business for many years to come. We realize that this can only happen if we continue to bring you great bargains on truly valuable domain names.

Moreover, our multi-faceted, yet highly targetted marketing approach allows us to spotlight our inventory very effectively, while keeping our advertising costs down. This helps us lower not only our advertising costs, but also the number of days a domain remains in our inventory. In short, we keep our costs down, and aim for a fast inventory turn over, while ensuring that every one of our domain sale results in a positive (no matter how minutely postive) cash flow.

Even though it is every domain owner's pipe dream to get a six figure return on her domain, most of them are day dreaming, pricing their domains way out of reality. We try our very best to keep our expectations in check, and our feet firmly grounded in reality. That's why our prices are so low!

How do you determine "Minimum Offer" amount?
The minimum offer amount is usually set to a dollar amount that would be the absolute minimum that we would be willing to sell a domain for. Setting a minimum offer amount to a reasonable level also helps us weed out offers that do not meet even a minimum threshold.

Minimum offer amount for a domain name is set based on two factors:

  • The minimum amount we could possibly accept for a domain name.
When we list a domain name in our domain for sale inventory, we determine a minimum offer amount as well. By clearly stating the minimum offer amount that we would be open to entertain, we help you make an informed choice, early on. We are straight shooters, and we believe that you would certainly like to know this amount before submitting a bid.

  • The median value of all the offers received for a domain name.
We look at the offers received from our multi-pronged marketing efforts, and calculate the MEDIAN offer amount after considering only the serious offers received from various channels. That median amount often becomes the "minimum offer" amount for a domain listed for sale at SlashRoot.Com. We may then set, optionaly, a "buy now" target price also, depending on our own projections, the time we are willing to keep that name in our inventory, etc.

What is "Target Price"?
Target Price is the amount we are willing to sell a domain for. Sometimes, we are unable to set this to a specific dollar amount. For almost every one of our domain name listed for sale at SlashRoot.Com, we recieve offers. Some times, the spread in the offer amounts for a domain name is so big, we feel it is not appropriate to set the Target Price to a specific dollar amount. There was a time, not too lng ago, when we used to update the Target Price for a domain name as soon as an offer was received. However, considering that most of our domains receive several offers within a relatively short time, we have stopped updating the Target Offer amounts at SlashRoot.Com every time an offer is received. This saves us, and our customers, the trouble of chasing a moving target.

I placed an offer. Now What?
Thank you for your offer. We try to respond to every offer within a business day, often within a matter of hours. As soon as your offer is received, it is compared to any open offers that we may have received through other channels. If your offer meets or exceeds our "Target Price," as well as exceeds all other open offers, we notify you that your offer has been accepted. Instructions for remitting the payment are also sent.

However, please note that we pursue several marketing channels to reach out to potential buyers -the end users who would use a domain and benefit from it. Most of those buyers do not frequent domain auction sites, so we reach out to them through extensive market research and active marketing. It takes time and money but it works. Often we have several offers generated through these direct marketing efforts -in addition to those received at SlashRoot.Com.

If your offer does not exceed other open offers, or fails to meet or exceed target price, we usually send you a counter offer that is valid for a specified time.

What happens after you sell me a domain at SlashRoot.Com?
We bring out our party hats, baloons, laser pens, and celebrate -welcoming you to SlashRoot.Com. As soon as the party is over, we sport our propeller hats again, and get to the business of transferring the domain name over to you. We email you payment instructions, and request your contact information needed for updating the domain records. Usually, the name gets transferred over to you within one business day from the time of receipt of full payment from you. We email you again, politely asking you if our services met or exceeded your expectation. Every body crosses their fingers, nervously chews on their pencils, and anxiously awaits your feedback. If you tell us that you were happy with our services, we bring out our party hats, baloons, laser pens, and celebrate, once again, thanking you for your order. As soon as the party is over, everybody moans, yawns, sports a propeller hat again, and gets back to business. Life goes on... :)
